Two strong wins not enough as reigning SWRU champs fall short of finals appearance in Colorado.
You'd have to excuse the New Mexico Brujos if the went into this year's Cowpie Classic with a little swagger. After all the reigning SWRU champs were coming off a season that saw them fall just one game short of a national semi-finals appearance.
That swagger showed as the NM Brujos got off to a hot start, rattling off two straight victories over the Northern Colorado Flamingos and Wyoming.
Ultimately a tough loss in a back and forth game against Vail kept the Brujos out of the final against perennial regional powerhouse Aspen.
Still, the team's two wins bode well for the rest of their summer tournament season heading into the fall.

The Brujos will enjoy a few weeks off before heading south to El Paso for the Sun City 7s on August 15.
