Sandia Sandstorm 2025 brought the heat, literally! On an absolute scorcher of a summer day, the New Mexico Brujos inaugural Sandia Sandstrom Rugby Tournament was a hot smash!
With eight men's teams and four women's teams the southwest rugby region felt well represented. After a few hours of pool play, with a much need yoga break in between, it was the Old Boys team that won a late extended championship match to take the men's title. The women's title came down to a fan favorite boat race between the two sides of the dominant Atomic Sisters squad, and some heroic drinking by the Beaches side of the Sisters gave them the hardware. In addition, the Old Boys team also won the team award for most team spirit, due to their amazing wardrobes and, of course, their advanced age.
The success of this tournament would not have been possible without the support and infrastructure provided by Duke City Beaches and Brujos Old Boy Dave Hopper. They were absolutely fabulous hosts and we can't wait to Partner with them on more events in the future. Thanks also to Hot Yoga for providing us with a much need yoga session in the midpoint of the day. Another round of thanks to all our sponsors, especially Be Hempful and Kelly services. And finally thanks to every team that showed up, and all the family and friends that came to support them. This was an absolute blast and we can hardly wait to do it again next year.
2025 Wizardfest announced. Save the Date!
With Sandia Sandstorm now in the rearview, it's time for Wizardfest!
Put on your dancing cleats, it's time to celebrate! Join the New Mexico Brujos for the 2025 Wizardfest (AKA Rugby Prom), on Saturday, August 16th and celebrate the past year in Brujos rugby and honor the stand out players and dubious events that made the 2025 season one to remember. This year's ceremony will feature NM Brujos hall of fame inductions, player awards and more!
This year's event is being held at Hollow Spirits Distillery
Located at 1324 1st St NW, Albuquerque, NM 87102
Festivities begin at 5 PM.
In addition, the New Mexico Brujos Annual General Meeting (AGM) is also going to be on Saturday, August 16th, earlier in the day. Location and time still TBD.
