NM Brujos fall to Scottsdale on late kick in first round of SWRU Playoffs. Sisters lose in SWRU Women's final, Santos take SWRU Men's title. Wizardfest 2024 date announced.
The New Mexico Brujos saw their 2024 SWRU playoff run come to a premature and shocking end last Saturday when two very late penalties gave the Scottsdale Blues kicks, the second of which they would convert as time ran out to win by a point. Despite leading 17 - 0 at half the NM Brujos would then surrender 20 straight points in the second half, a momentum shift that was as much a factor of the one direction howling wind as anything. The Brujos did manage to do something the Blues couldn't, score a try going against the wind with very little time left to take a 22 to 20 lead. Scottsdale would then get a penalty with seemingly no time left on the clock. After missing the kick there was still unfortunately enough time left on the clock for the Brujos to accrue yet another penalty and this one would be made as time expired. Despite the disappointing finish to the season, the winning Spring run the team went on and the return to playoff form made this year a successful one and left the team with plenty of positives to build on going forward. There's still plenty of rugby left in the year including the Summer and Fall tournament season, team building charity work, recruiting, fundraisers including the Brujos golf tournament and of course Wizardfest (more on that below). In other SWRU news the Santa Fe Santos defeated Tucson on Saturday in the other semi-final, and then edged out Scottsdale on a late try in the Sunday final 38 to 36 to advance to the next round of the playoffs in Las Vegas in two weeks. Congrats Santos! In the Women's final on Saturday The Atomic Sisters lost to Las Vegas to end their season. Cheers to another solid season of rugby ladies!

This is the biggest night of the year for the team, new players and old boys, a celebration of everything Brujos so clear your social calendar, shine your dress cleats and plan on attending!
