Beautiful weather and a decent sized turnout mark the 45th High Desert Rugby Classic.

On an absolutely perfect, if not a little warm, New Mexico fall day, the Brujos dropped two matches, and offered some much needed help to two teams in a split squad effort after another team was a no show. The Brujos dropped their morning match to the eventual winners of this years club title, the Denver Highlanders in a match that wasn't competitive from the Brujos standpoint, but did see some of the younger players get some much need playing time. The Brujos lost a much closer afternoon match to the Las Cruces Hornytoads 26 - 21. The wind kept both teams on their toes for most of the match in a 22 to 20 Santos win over the Brujos in Santa Fe on Saturday. The conditions denied the Santos several conversions, but Brujo Jeff Smolensky skillfully used his boot to keep the boys in blue in the game. Brujos impress early, hold on for win against El Paso.

On a chilly and grey October Saturday, the Brujos got off to a hot start in their first home match of the season, then held on for a 45 to 26 victory as the Scorpions attempted a comeback in the second half. The Brujos led 24 to 7 at half, and 45 to 12 at one point in the second half, before El Paso managed a couple of tries in the final 10 minutes. Tries: Vallejo, Smolensky (2), Garibay, Todano, Montoya, Vanderwall. In other New Mexico Rugby news the Albuquerque Aardvarks fell to the Santa Fe Santos 21 to 15, the University of New Mexico men's Rugby team fell to Texas Tech in a nail biter, 31 to 29, and the NM Tech Pygmies blanked the UTEP Miners, 59-0.
